Kino is a simple Mexican-indian pearl diver, that lives a poor life with his wife Juana and son Coyotito . One morning Kino was eating breakfast with his wife, while there was a scorpion heading toward his son. As kino attempts to catch the scorpion it falls on the baby shoulder and bits him. Juana try's to remove the scorpion poison out, but notices that there is no use and decides to go to the doctor. Surprisingly the doctor refuses to cure the baby, because they don't have money. So Kino heads to the ocean and searches for pearls; so that he can pay the doctor. He finds this huge pearl. This changes his life, the doctor visits him and treats the baby, other people like the priest visit kino. kino decides to sell it to pay to the doctor and to have a better life. The second day he heads to the pearl buyers, but he dons sell the pearl because he is convinced that it is worth more than what they gave. At that same night Kino gets hit and injured from and intruder that was about to steal the pearl.
